Some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to Sunset

Entitlements are for freeloaders. Medicaid, welfare, SNAP. Something for nothing. SS and Medicare are programs we pay into and get less out of than what we paid. ?
We agree. So why do Republicans refer to SS/Medicare as entitlements?

Not so sure about getting less out of it. If you paid the maximum FICA as an employee for 40 years, you had about $200,000 in, and another $200,000 from your employer. Give or take. At that rate, you're probably getting $2k/month when you retire. If you retire at 62, you don't have to live that long to recoup your investment.

How many people have that skill? Not many. And the ones that do will get the money of the ones that don’t. We have mechanisms for people to invest in the market. Social security will become nothing but a predatory program. I can see the ads now. It’s a HORRIBLE idea.

TBH, SS is such a small amount of my retirement income, I could give a shit one way or another. I just don't think anyone should be forced into a gubmint program when there are other options. If you trust the gubmint to handle your money , fine. If you don't, you have no other option before a certain amount.
I look at SS like my solution to universal healthcare which is Moosecare. In a truly free society there should be actual options. And that's what socialism is all about. Taking away the freedom of options.

We will agree to disagree. I sometimes forget it’s coming. It’s just knocking around money for me too. But lots of people have nothing else.

I was able to go on my wife’s SS (I was widowed at 60) until I reached full retirement. New wife just turned 50 so she has a long way to go. Retirement at 62 is pretty damn risky because you can’t work and collect, at least not much.

lots of people have nothing else.
And those people have no options. You consider that fair when we do? The 'poor' have to rely solely on the government? The poor aren't allowed a choice in their retirement, their future?

If they do that's stupid. It's a forced govt. retirement plan at gunpoint without the option of the choose to take a calculated risk for a better one. Authoritarianism in its purist form.

Whoever said the employer stops contributing?

The fact is old people were in serious trouble before FDR started Social Security. There were stories of old ladies living on cat food. It was cheap back then.
SS also covers orphans and women whose wage earner died. It covers people born with catastrophic diseases. It helps people survive who are seriously injured.
You rightys are lucky that you and your family will not get a serious injury and sickness. Your fabulous lives will result in n old age of plenty. So yeah, fuck those other people.

Because they are. They are communism. They are also unconstitutional.

They getting a LOT less out of it. As the years pass, they will get even less out of it still.

Nope., Social Security is not an investment.

Victims of robbery? Yes I'm one. Every dollar stolen that I will never get back would have paid for my retirement. Now I'll have to depend on the shit heads you leftists are shitting out your asses, otherwise known as schools, to actually work a job to supplement my retirement. Fucking ponzi scheme

No, you would have been too fucking stupid to have saved a dime and the rest of us would have to support you with welfare. SS is the only thing that keeps morons like you from having to suck on the govt tit because they are broke. Medicare is the only thing that trys to pay the medical bills for idiots like you who would have no resources to pay them yourself. Your comments on here are so fucking stupid you can't possibly have the sense to manage a retirement. You are why we have SS.

I was told the same story >40 years ago, that SS wouldn't be there for me when I retired.

It eventually dawned on me that conservatives had been lying to me.

Yes I can remember back in the 1980's republicans saying SS would not last but a few more years.

When President Biden said that some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset, Marjorie Taylor, Greene and crew irrupted in an uproar screaming that he was a liar.

Isn’t it true that some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to Sunset?

In fact, isn’t it true that some Republicans want it to go away?

no.....its as simple as that...
