"Jan 30, 2023 - A dead whale that washed up on a Long Island beach Monday morning is the 8th to wash up on a New Jersey or New York beach since December.

"Never have we ever heard of six whales washing up within 33 days," said Cindy Zipf, executive director of Long Branch-based Clean Ocean Action during a press conference on Jan. 9. "We don't know how many whales may have died offshore."

Al Gore is the worst thing that ever happened to the environment.

Al Gore is the worst thing that ever happened to the environment.

What does that have to do with windmills?

Ain’t they the ones who are suppose to be causing cancer? Ain’t easy keeping the MAGA conspiracies straight

What is your solution for supplying energy to a rapidly expanding population, pup? Or do you just like to sit, bitch and spin?

Among other things. Who started the conspiracy theory about power lines causing cancer? This sounds alike an updated version of that one.

Agreed. There's so many that it's hard to keep track.

"The agreement involving Orsted and Eversource — developers of South Fork Wind off the coast of New England and New York — was signed by the National Wildlife Federation, the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Conservation Law Foundation, the groups said in a joint statement."

"Under Monday’s agreement, South Fork Wind will adopt monitoring measures to help ensure right whales are not close to the site during active construction. South Fork Wind will also work to reduce noises made by pile driving and implement a 10-knot speed limit for project-related vessels to cut the risk of vessel strikes."

This was implemented over 6 months ago. Apparently, it's not working.

Poor little Big Doggie! He struggles so much with reality, he seems to take pleasure from it!

Alternatives have a long way to go to match the destruction & loss of species inflicted by fossil fuels.

That's not what the "It's all about me" crowd want to hear. They want to have life be as convenient as possible now regardless of how it impacts their kids and grandkids.

Fossil fuels and nuclear kill vastly more birds than wind farms.
It's not even in the same ball park

Thanks, but drive-by idiots like Bigdog don't care about facts. :)

Notice he only wants to bitch. He never proposes alternatives, including data to back him up. At best, he'll post "drill, baby, drill" or some other soundbite made for idiots.

They are doing seismic testing of the ground that they want to erect wind turbines on. That testing involves underwater explosions with dynamite. That is damaging the whale's ability to navigate.

What is your solution to more energy? Buggy whips and bigger horses? Should the US invest more money into fusion research?

Offshore seismic refraction and reflection data is generally collected using acoustic energy, like pneumatic air guns.

OK it still is high energy enough to screw with the whales

Offshore oil and gas exploration uses deafening seismic surveys that generate the loudest human sounds in the ocean, short of those made by explosives. Seismic testing involves blasting the seafloor with high-powered airguns (a kind of powerful horn) every 10 seconds and measuring the echoes with long tubes to map offshore oil and gas reserves. These blasts disturb, injure and kill marine wildlife around the clock for years on end.

In marine mammals, the blasts — which reach more than 250 decibels and be heard for miles — can cause hearing loss, disturb essential behaviors like feeding and breeding, and mask communications between individual whales and dolphins. The blasts also reduce catch rates of commercial fish.
