It really is. They're here because other forums have banned them for personal attacks and other rule violations. But here they can screech whatever crazy they like, and be enabled by like-minded chickenshits who cower in the shadows and egg them on.
Perhaps a couple of us should reach out to Damocles and offer to be mods/enforce the rules. I would be professional about it, and I'm sure you would be, too. And it shouldn't be just liberal-leaning people - TA Gardner and Stone have brains - they could do it, too. That's how it was on Debate Politics - all mods were volunteers. And to make it fair, like it was on DP, suspending or banning people can't be a unilateral decision - it would have to be a vote with all mods so members can't claim they were victims of libs or cons.
The result would be a better quality of our membership population. The other thing is that socks were illegal on DP, it would be better if it were that way here as well.
Nope, no way should Stone *ever* be a moderator here. We already had at least one who was extremely biased like Stone. For right-leaners I think Flash would be excellent. I don't think I would be a good mod for the same reason. I'm not hyper partisan but I would be corrupted by the tiny scraps of power and do unspeakably evil things.

You would be surprised how some people behave when they know they're expected to act maturely or professionally. If you're a mod you can still troll (as long as you don't break the rules), but because you're a mod, you're going to do less of it.
I'm just thinking out loud though. I just think if this place was less evil troll-filled, it would attract more quality people and it would make the place more enjoyable.

Not interested in trolling so that wouldn't be an issue. I don't think that adding more mods would make much difference. The off-putting stuff that chases people away is the racism, the horrible personal insults, the threats, telling people to kill themselves, and the "I hope you die" posts, the homophobia.
So, like those are the things that would be illegal - racism, death threats, personal insults. Now, on DP there is a forum called, "The Basement" where flaming and insults are allowed, but death threats and racism is not - we could just use this forum's "War Zone" for that. But you're correct, we'd need to convince the site owner that racist epithets and threats of violence should be "no-no's" in any of the forums.
