If you were thinking inflation was easing, probably not so much...

Lots of other shoes dropping soon.

Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas), which serves about 5.9 million households and businesses, warned customers to expect “shockingly high” January bills that could be 128 percent higher compared to December. Those who typically paid around $65 a month last winter are likely to pay about $160 this year, SoCalGas said in a statement Dec. 29. Those with bills around $130 a month could see charges jump to $315.
Last December, wholesale natural gas prices already cost five times more than that of 2021. The utility also paid unprecedented prices for the supply in January, the company reported.
Natural gas prices rose in 2022 for five reasons, according to a biennial report (pdf) published by California Gas and Electric Utilities, a group of utility providers including SoCalGas, San Diego Gas & Electric, and SoCal Edison.
First, North American inventories fell below the five-year average last year. Second, the national supply was also strained by Europe’s steady demand for American natural gas during the Ukraine conflict.
Third, the Biden administration restricted licensing and drilling in the country for fossil fuels, and investment for such production has lagged behind the rapidly growing demand for natural gas over the past year, according to the report.
Lastly, the growing electric power sectors nationwide also consume natural gas, the company reported.
“From an economic standpoint [reducing reliance on fossil fuels] may be costly and is certainly not expected to be rapid or easy,” the utility reported. “Nonetheless, the push to find ways forward and to provide energy solutions to customers in a clean and affordable way is an imperative.”

Here in New England, our electricity bills have skyrocketed.

This is what happens when public utilities are privately owned.
Nationalize all of them.

Then, if prices go up, at least we'll know it's for a legit reason.

The problem is lack of gas on the West coast....national inventories are fine.

This is a problem that has been running for a few years, mostly I think because CA is hammering the oil and gas industry in their state but I am not sure because we dont have journalists anymore. It appears that very little is being done, so we can expect the problem to get worse over the coming years.

State law's allows utilities to pass those costs directly along to customers. There would be zero difference. Only more of a cluster fuck.

The Epoch Times opposes the Chinese Communist Party,[32][33][22] promotes far-right politicians in Europe,[8][10][22] and has supported former President Donald Trump in the U.S.;[34][35] a 2019 report by NBC News showed it to be the second-largest funder of pro-Trump Facebook advertising after the Trump campaign.

It is important to know how much gas Southern California Gas Company is buying on the spot market....if they dont have enough gas on contract is likely is because they dont care about gas prices, as they just pass it on to the customers. Power not giving a fuck about the people is certainly the norm in California now.

When the government decided that AT&T's controlled monopoly should be split into multiple private companies, they created the worst clusterfuck of all time.
They should have nationalized it instead. Elected public officials responsible for all telecommunications, wired or wireless, including the internet and cable television as well as phones, run efficiently to the satisfaction
of the voting customers, would be a very good thing, and it wouldn't have to turn a profit--just break even.

That's what happens when you adopt Green energy policies. Your rates skyrocket. That has happened in every country that has gone in big for Green energy. It isn't cheaper. It is grossly more expensive.

That is a near impossibility when it's the government running it. It would have been a far larger disaster.

You don't believe that we've trashed the fucking planet.
I'm absolutely certain that we have, but I just don't care as much as most.
I'm 76, have no grandchildren, so convenience and comfort always remain my priorities.

Because you disagree with it. Riiiiight.
You would rather believe the CNN and MSNBC and Associated Press trash.

Unconstitutional.
