[h=1]“In a scathing 46-page order, US District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks wrote that Trump and his lawyer attempted to "dishonestly" advance a political narrative with the lawsuit, adding that no "reasonable lawyer" would have filed it.
Middlebrooks went on to accuse Trump and Habba of filing the lawsuit in bad faith, for an "improper purpose," and, ultimately, abusing the legal system for political purposes...
Trump and Habba, his lead attorney in the case, have been held individually and jointly liable for $937,989.39 in legal sanctions.”

I feel like it is just for rich people to pay more taxes because they are constantly hogging and clogging up our courts, our legal resources, our systems of jurisprudence with frivolous law suits.

I don't think anyone in human history had filed more lawsuits than Donald Trumpf.

Yup.

Trump was known to sue everyone in NY even when it was him stiffing all the contractors on his jobs. He just made it known, coming after him was going to be costly as he would sue and sue and sue.

So it is very amusing now to see him whine about the lawsuits he is facing.

Not sure which I enjoy more, Trump being fined, or his base being bilked.

Ya, the funniest (and by funny i mean sad) are when we get Trump supporting pensioners, being interviewed thinking they made a one time donation to Trump, and his campaign then cleans out their bank account, with the auto donation function, and they are shocked and dismayed after that the grifter caught them and fleeced them.

:: but... but... I thought i was giving him money to hurt others... ::

Even better is the ones who still defend him after he grifts them.

Most of the idiots have woken up and pretend they never heard of him anymore, or get very embarrassed at the mention of his name, but some are still in his thrall.

The ruling can be found here:

It's an interesting ruling in that the judge doesn't just rely on this lawsuit but also points to other Trump lawsuits as a pattern of abusing the legal system.

Mr. Trump’s deliberate use of a frivolous lawsuit for an
improper purpose constitutes bad faith. And the behavior is not unique, but part of a plan, or at
least a playbook. The telltale signs:
• Provocative and boastful rhetoric;
• A political narrative carried over from rallies;
• Attacks on political opponents and the news media;
• Disregard for legal principles and precedent; and
• Fundraising and payments to lawyers from political action committees.33
And when a ruling is adverse, accusations of bias on the part of judges—often while the
litigation is ongoing.

It looks like Trump and his lawyers might be getting the message since he dropped the mentioned frivolous lawsuit against Letitia James today.

I wonder how much she’ll have to pay.
I didn’t know you could be fined for filing a frivolous lawsuit. It’s done all the time.
And almost a $million? :whoa:

The courts can sanction for frivolous lawsuits. It usually results in the paying attorney's fees for the other side but can also include fines.
In this case Trump filed suit against about 30 people and organizations. They submitted lawyers fees to the court and requested they be paid for them.

Defendants request $1,058,283.50 in fees and costs. See generally Defendants’ Joint
Motion for Sanctions (DE 280-2) (hereinafter “Application”). The Application is a 304-page
document filed in support of Defendants’ fee request.
The court didn't authorize all the fees to be paid but certainly the majority.

The biggest problem for Habba is she spent so much time on Fox and Newsmax promoting the lawsuit and spouting nonsense which only reinforced the judge's opinion that this was not a valid lawsuit filed in good faith.

HE has to pay those he sued for the cost of defense. It happens all the time. He sued a large group of people including Hillary Clinton, a very good Harvard educated lawyer.

When this board first started, one of the issues which most outraged conservatives was frivolous lawsuits.

I think because they had been ordered by rightwing media personalities to believe liberal trial lawyers were teaming up with poor whites and brown people to bilk our capitalist overlords through the court system.
