If Russia is going to go nuclear, why not just destroy all the land? It is where all the people live, and could be done with ICBM's are sub launched missiles. I just do not see how "nuclear torpedoes" could do worse damage, given that almost no one lives on the ocean.

For decades now, subs have had the capability to sit 90 miles off the coast and obliterate cities with Missiles.

It brings the destroy time down from 30 minutes to 5 minutes. That would mean bombers could be caught on the ground, but ICBM's and our sub launched missiles would still get out. We would still kill plenty.
