Are all men are created equal?

Political Rhetoric Should Never Be Taken Literally

Jefferson addressed it to the British king and its birth-not-worth ruling class, not to his fellow Americans.

It's common knowledge that the US Declaration was writing to the King of Britain.

The fact that Jefferson was deeply involved in the drafting of Virginia's Declaration of Rights, and his full throated support for the French Revolution are iron clad evidence Jefferson was ideologically committed in principle to the idea of universal natural rights. It wasn't just an act for the benefit of George III.

You can sneer down your nose at Jefferson you want, but by 18th century standards, the Enlightenment project of universal rights Jefferson hitched his wagon to were absolutely radical.

What about your brain?

Bright Makes Might

Only High IQs qualify for homo sapiens status. They invented everything that prevents the rest of mankind from living like wild animals. However, this distinction doesn't apply to the nerd escapist pushovers degraded by academic tyranny. That's all we have in these decadent times, so those dependent on them are headed back to the Stone Age.

So YOU get to choose who?

“We hold these truths to be self evident… that all men are created equal.”

Do you believe this is true?

All humans are entitled to equal opportunity and equal status under the law.

All humans are clearly not close to being equal.
We're limited to what our genes allow us to be, and we don't all get the same toolbox of attributes and abilities.

That makes it impossible to be equal, but we've wisely decided that we should all have equal rights.

We are decidedly not created equally.

So he didn’t believe in the death penalty?

Obviously, humans have believed for centuries that if you infringe someone else's rights, your rights might be forfeit. That goes back to at least John Locke, if not earlier.

I believe in terminating lives that are inconvenient to preserve in civilized society, but I don't think of humane euthanasia as being penal.

It's merciful compare to be tossed in a dirty cage.

Lincoln was a republican, so who can guess what was on his mind.
I'm told that they were the good guys back then, but I wasn't there to confirm that.
