It is not about truth or fiction. It is about them expressing their emotions, in particular a nearly unlimited amount of rage. They keep repeating they have been "betrayed." It is never their personal failures, it is always some unseen "deep state" that is out to get them. If they ever admitted even one part of the truth, their entire fantasy would come crumbling down.
