If the UK sends Challenger II tanks then Germany won't have a leg to stand on with Leopards. Even the Greens want to send them ffs!

Until now, no Western country has given main battle tanks to help the Ukrainian military -- although France announced this week that so-called light tanks, the AMX-10 RC armoured fighting vehicles, will be supplied for the first time.

The US said it would consider sending similar Bradley Fighting Vehicles as well.

But Anders Adlercreutz from the Swedish Peoples' Party and Atte Harjanne from the Greens argue that if smaller countries with Leopard tanks give a few each, then Europe's biggest user of the Leopards, Germany, will have no excuses left not to provide the tanks -- which the Ukrainians themselves have asked for.

In September, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said there wasn't "a single rational argument" as to why Germany couldn't supply Leopard tanks.

"What is Berlin afraid of that Kyiv is not?" Kuleba asked.

The Finnish politicians reckon a "brigade level" of 90-100 tanks would make a big impact on the battlefield and estimate they would need a few months to get Ukrainian tank and maintenance crews up to speed.

Streamlined training processes could be introduced to speed things up, with an acknowledgement that the level of theoretical and practical skills needed during peacetime is a luxury compared to time constraints in times of war.

"But this far we've seen that Ukrainians have been able to take up and use Western equipment quite quickly, regarding of whether it's been artillery or anti-aircraft guns," said Harjanne.

There is reason to wonder if the Brits have been keeping these tanks operating...money is short...2/3 are to be remanfactured....1/3 scraped. And we know how little of the German miltary functions.

The Challenger 2 is a very good tank. I'm not such how much good 10-12 tanks will do.
 
Putin's military is not Stalin's Red Army with whom we were allies in World War II.
Russia is not a socialist republic anymore, but a fascist regime the likes of which Stalin helped us defeat.
And it's not a military superpower like the Soviet Union was.

Anything we can do to stop Putin and his defenders and accomplices is the wise and moral thing to do.

The last Challenger came off the line over 20 years ago. The Brits wanted to build a new tank but they dont have the money nor do they have the manufacturing ability...supply chains and all that. So they decided to remanufacture the Challengers, but they dont even have the money to do that, so they plan to do only 2/3 of the 227 they have left of the 386 they built...the rest are to be scraped.

Not a good look.
