Most of All, I Am Offended as a Muslim

On Hamline University’s shocking imposition of narrow religious orthodoxy in the classroom.
Something happened, right here in Minnesota, that I find deeply offensive.

On October 6, during a class on Islamic art that was part of a global survey course in art history, a professor at Hamline University offered students an optional exercise: Analyze and discuss a 14th-century Islamic painting that depicts the Archangel Gabriel delivering to the Prophet Muhammad his first Quranic revelation.

Explanation notwithstanding, the complaint set in motion the DEI bureaucracy on campus, and on November 7, David Everett, associate vice president for inclusive excellence, called the classroom exercise “undeniably inconsiderate, disrespectful, and Islamophobic.” Just days later, on November 11, Everett told the student newspaper in an interview that because of the incident, “it was decided it was best that this faculty member was no longer part of the Hamline community.” By all accounts, the professor was not given any opportunity to explain the rationale behind the class exercise.

Another good article from the Chronicle of Higher Ed is about Title IX abuses. One professor was reported for listing a book in his syllabus and using the name of the author as it is listed on the book. It was the author's "dead name" as he is now transgendered.

Islamic "art" outside of calligraphy of verses of the Quran are pretty rare as strict interpretations of it forbid almost all forms of art as idolatry.

The Hamline controversy shows how the concepts of diversity and tolerance have become turned on their head. Diversity used to mean the creation of a space for dissent and disagreement and tolerance the willingness to live with things that one might find offensive or distasteful.

As long as Americans have to suffer the indignities of supporting criminal Israel and AIPAC has the power to destroy the lives and reputations of Americans with ' antisemitic ' smears then any acknowledgment of anything Islamic will be treated with suspicion, at best, or with character assassination .
Some ignorant people even believe that Arabic numerals should be removed from western publications.
Of course, America's support for Israeli ethnic cleansing is rooted in the US attempting to cover its own historic colonialist ass.
Hard to swallow.

Not exactly. Art itself is revered and has flourished for millennia. What is restricted is the depiction of form.
