Long enough for the nuts to demand that Biden be impeached. And when McCarthy says 'no', they will recall him. And if he says yes, someone else will recall him. Four Republicans can end McCarthy's speakership (on the off chance he actually gets the position). FOUR. That's it. If it isn't over impeachment, it will be over the debt ceiling. And we can go back to having no speaker again.

These terrorists are going to hold the US economy hostage so they can get the massive spending cuts they want. So much for that.

Oh, it's a terrible problem. And in this situation, it could end up being a disaster for the country. Not a small, 'gee we have too much debt' disaster. Defaulting on the debt will make 2008 look like a picnic.
