Newly-elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy thanked former President Donald Trump for helping him get the votes, telling reporters: "I don’t think anybody should doubt his influence."

"He was with me from the beginning — somebody wrote the doubt of whether he was there — and he was all in. He would call me and he would call others. And he really was — I was just talking to him tonight — helping get those final votes."

McCarthy, who spoke with Rep. Matt Gaetz on the floor between the 14th*and 15th*ballot, told CNN’s Manu Raju: "At the end of the night, Matt got everybody there from the point that nobody voted against the other way, so it actually helped unite people."

He also dismissed concerns that tonight’s drama on the floor is a taste of what is to come in the House over the next two years.

Can we borrow your line and claim they are all partisan witch hunts? Did you know that Biden proposed immigration reform on day one of his administration and it passed the House? Maybe we should investigate why the Senate never voted on it.

We all know how the game has been played by BOTH SIDES for a long time now. The D's were investigating Trump for one thing or another the entire time he was in office and right up until the 22 elections. It looks bad for one party to do that and then instantly as the other party takes control say "Its time to do the peoples work....the endless investigations must end"... :laugh:

I hope they investigate, too, it’s just what the majority of the American people don’t want. I have heard several Republicans interviewed, and their constituents are ready for Congress to work together. Stupid investigations aren’t what the majority want.

How can the D party, which obviously by their own actions absolutely must LOVE investigations suddenly say how bad they are when it is finally someone elses turn to do a little investigating of their own? They can investigate all they want. They just won't have subpoena power, as they did away with that law.

This is going to be fascinating. They're going to 'investigate' Biden's handling of the pandemic.

That will entail having to expose the fact that Kushner refused the Biden admin. any access to Covid/vaccine information until he was sworn in.

That will be the headline, aside from MAGA heads exploding when their subpoenas are laughed at.
