States' rights are a fast trip to the LCD. If you seek salvation there, you are looking in the wrong direction. When a state weakens regulations, all the companies quickly set up phony offices to take advantage of them. When Delaware and S Carolina removed limits on fees and interest rates, every bank that could set up there. They went for the end of the usury laws that the states adopted. That did not help the consumers. The corporations and wealthy will just shop for the weakest laws and regulations and screw you some more.

No, you are thinking of the 13th and 15th amendments. The 14th amendment has nothing to do with slaves or former slaves. Section 4 addresses slave owners, not slaves.
Illegal immigrants are not citizens of the United States. All they are doing is exposing their children to becoming orphans, since their parents can be deported.

The federal government has long since discarded the 14th amendment, which requires all laws to apply equally to everyone. No special privileges for any people or class of people.
The 14th still serves a purpose.
