Rep. Kevin McCarthy appears suffer defeat in the 11th ballot for House speaker as more than five Republicans opposed his bid.

The current bid for House leadership is now the longest speaker contest in 164 years.

A group of hardline Republicans have so far derailed McCarthy's bid to become House speaker — even after McCarthy reportedly proposed major concessions late Wednesday.

No member of Congress can be sworn in until a House speaker is elected.

Why CNN says "appears to" suffer a defeat before the gavel goes down: Members-elect have the ability to change their votes before the vote is gaveled over. CNN is following along and tallying the voice votes as they happen, but it's important to be clear that anything could technically change before the vote ends.

Here's is some historical background for you all.

In 1856, it took former House Speaker Nathaniel Prentice Banks two months and 133 rounds of voting for the House of Representatives to settle on a leader - the longest stretch on record. Congress was brought to a standstill for two months.

Trump is the most destructive force to American society and democracy in any of our lifetimes. As he and his ass lickers continue to lose and lose and lose, his ability to continue to shit all over the US diminishes.

There is no way on this Earth that Trump would want to be Speaker, only a fool would think otherwise. I would also suggest that the far Left aka Progressives, who seem to control Biden, are far more dangerous.
