After weeks went by I didn't think they were going to catch whoever did it. I'm very glad they did!
Most murders of whites are white. Most serial killers are white (this was more a spree killing, but those are also usually white, too). Idaho is a white places with white murders.
Murders are usually performed by people who feel comfortable enough being there to commit murder. This idea that an outsider somehow went into Idaho and started killing is bizarre. Technically, the suspect was in Eastern Washington, so outside Idaho, but there is no real difference over that border. The cultural difference is between Western Washington and Eastern Washington.
So, if the police had tried to convince me that the murder was perpetrated by a Black, or by a New Yorker, or whatever, I would think it was highly unlikely. I would believe the police were framing someone because they could not accept it was a white man who did it.

To be clear, a mass killing like this isn't a "serial murder"...but it wouldn't surprise me if this wasn't Bryan's first attack or murder. Even with a surprise night attack, to murder four people his first night out would be unusual.
