The least we could do is get rid of the "college" and have every state's vote go automatically the winner. It's called a college for a reason. Some Founders feared an unprincipled loudmouth might capture the passions of enough ordinary voters to get elected (anyone of recent vintage come to mind?). In that case, members of the college would step in and override the state's popular vote. Members of the college, therefore, would be leading men in their states. It was a dream. The colleges quickly became groups of political flunkies and it's been much by chance an election has not been decided by them.

How did you arrive at that ratio? Regardless, unless you have a plan to have 3/4s of the states ratify an amendment to change the EC, it will remain in place.

Maybe, maybe not. Regardless, it's the status quo for as far as I can see. Better, IMO, to find another way such as ranked voting.
 
Calling someone a "traitor" for wanting to move on from the electoral vote is such ridiculous hyperbole. Making that change could only be done within the framework of the Constitution's rules for amending such a process. Advocating for that kind of change is as American as it gets.

The electoral college was originally intended to appease the slave states. It doesn't really have a place in modern America. If we stick w/ it, we stick with it - but advocating for that change is logical & fair.

FWIW, While I agree votes should carry equal weight, I also think citizens should have to qualify for voting rights by passing the same citizenship exam as naturalized citizens.

If I had my way, they'd also have to serve a stint for our nation too, such as in the military, Peace Corps or the like.

Kind of an irrelevant point in the context of this discussion.

Theoretically, states representing less than 20% of the population can elect a Senate majority. The Senate, obviously, is a pretty influential body in terms of setting U.S. policy.

It's essentially tyranny, from a certain perspective. Potentially less then 1/5 of the country deciding policy for everyone.

more lies, just like dutch karen is lying. the EC was intended to help protect the rights of the minority from the will of the majority. it has more place now than it did back then, with you traitors wanting to ignore the rights of millions of middle americans.
