When the asshole DeSantis is offered as the "Team Normal" choice, it's long past time to dissolve a political party.
That the governor had the mental acuity of a paramecium doesn't mean that he's much better than the typical amoeba republican.

I am reminded of my mom and the pop star Madonna back in the 1980s.
Madonna's slutty demeanor made my mom cringe that she was one of our people.

Ms. Ciccone didn't bother me that much at all, although I'd never buy one of her records,

I voted for both, but only because my party truly sucks at nominating good people.

You cannot believe that. Bill graduated from Georgetown and Yale law. he was a Rhodes scholar. Bill is very smart. Bill had lots of time to do his job and he did it well.

Yes, he was well-educated but even smart people can give into their base pleasures by becoming corrupted while in office. Scandal began following Bill in Arkansas and, eventually, to Washington, DC. because he wasn't as smart as he thought he was.

I still think Hillary was the smarter and more focused one. Getting back to DeSantis, I see a similar situation there. Ron went to Yale too, graduating from Yale in 2001 with magna cum laude. He went on to graduate from Harvard Law School cum laude, was commissioned a US Naval officer and completed the Navy Justice School to become a JAG officer. He's no dummy either, despite the complaints of LW JPP members. DeSantis certainly wasn't a lying draft-dodger.

Notice that there's a difference between a person's education levels, their personal character and what their goals become and how they choose to attain those goals.

He has serious issues, but intelligence is not one of them.

IMO, his "serious issues" is putting populism over true leadership. He's playing to the fears of voters such as gays, abortion and the rest of the Republican baggage cart.
