Dallas Man Arrested, Accused of Carving Nazi Symbols Into Beverly Hills Menorah

A man was arrested after Nazi symbols were carved into a menorah in Beverly Hills, police say.

Officers responded Sunday night to reports that a menorah on private property was being vandalized, police said in a statement.

Use of surveillance video led to the arrest of Eric Brian King, of Dallas, for investigation of felony vandalism and a hate crime, police said.

It was not immediately known if King had an attorney.

Online Los Angeles County jail information showed that King, 47, was scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday.

Hard to fathom why some people do the stupid things they do.

IMO the reason falls into two categories: 1) a deep-seated lack of self-esteem resulting in them finding a target to hate and feel better about themselves and 2) mental illness.

Minorities are a "safe" target since it's less likely the bigot would personally face reprisals. Jews are about 2% of the US population. Muslims and gays are also low percentage minorities.

It's a long way to travel just to be arrested. I'm guessing it's more of a crime of opportunity. More facts will come out at his trial...if he doesn't plead out.
