Vermont Creates a “Right” to Kill Babies, Allows Abortions Up to Birth

Last month, state voters approved Proposal 5, a pro-abortion constitutional amendment, on the ballot by a massive margin. Most expected the amendment to pass in the deeply Democratic state. Abortions already are legal for basically any reason up to birth in Vermont, but the amendment will stop the state legislature from enacting any limits in the future.

What does the Constitution say about right to life?

"No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws ...."
 
Back when I was a kid, Vermont was full of dairy farmers with an occasional hippy neighbor from Long Island with a useless college degree who couldn't afford his parent's house. The farmers passed on and now the hippies are the majority.

The former Democrat governor of Virginia has already proposed this.

If the assholes of the American right stopped with the "life begins at conception" bullshit, perhaps an accommodation that makes sense could be worked out.

In any case, a woman with a pregnancy occurring in her own body, should be able to decide to terminate that pregnancy if she so desires. One would think that the political side that makes so much noise about "personal freedom" would champion that, but...NO!

My guess is that things will not change much in Vermont (nor anywhere else where legislation like this is passed) because of the legislation. Most abortions will happen early; very, very few will happen in the late second trimester...and almost none in the final.

So chill.
