Trump Organization found criminally liable in Manhattan tax-fraud trial

Former President Donald Trump's real-estate empire is criminally liable for the admitted tax frauds of its two top financial executives, a Manhattan jury found Tuesday afternoon.

The verdict was a fast and decisive one, following just 10 hours of deliberations over two days, and capping a total six-week trial.

The verdict means Trump's company now risks up to $1.6 million in penalties.

Dozens of trial exhibits showed Trump or his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., had signed off on some of the luxury apartments, free Mercedes vehicles, pricey private school tuition payments and other tax-free "perks" involved in the scheme.

These perks were carefully logged in internal company records, but were left off of the company's W-2 tax forms.

We all knew Trump and his company were dishonest. The rightys wanted him to get away with it. That is the only difference in attitude toward the trial.

Financially speaking, $1.6 million is barely a slap on the wrist.

And Trump won't be held personally responsible, so other than symbolically, I don't really see a big win for justice here.

Better than an acquittal I guess. :dunno:

An interesting side note I have seen tossed around is that a company with a felony conviction is restricted from doing business with the Federal government. He may no longer be able to charge for rooms for his SS detail. Whether true or not, I don't know but it would be an interesting result.

Part of the convenience of being an organization. Organizations don't commit crimes, the people in charge of them do. Anything other than jail time for the people involved is a miscarriage of justice.

Fines just make crimes legal for the wealthy.

What I heard on the news tonight, was that this may cost them a lot of future business from companies that will no longer want to do business with a convicted felon organization.

Guess we'll see eventually.

Trump Organization Found Guilty in Tax Fraud Scheme

Donald J. Trump’s family real estate business was convicted on Tuesday of tax fraud and other financial crimes, a remarkable rebuke of the former president’s company and what prosecutors described as its “culture of fraud and deception.”

The conviction on all 17 counts, after more than a day of jury deliberations in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, resulted from a long-running scheme in which the Trump Organization doled out off-the-books luxury perks to some executives: They received fancy apartments, leased Mercedes-Benzes, even private school tuition for relatives, none of which they paid taxes on.

The jury has found Donald Trump's real-estate company criminally liable for its executives' tax fraud.
To acquit, jurors needed to believe that Trump's two top financial executives testified truthfully.
The Trump Org. faces up to $1.6 million in penalties — and felony status.

$1.6M is chump change for Trump. He'll just take it out of petty cash from Trumper donations.

IDK what "felony status" means to TrumpCo. The past 50 years have seen Republicans strip American citizens of their power and given it to the corporations. I doubt there will be any meaningful harm to TrumpCo. A wrist slap at worst for Trump. Prison for his employees....kinda like 1/6. LOL Trump orders it, the "little people" pay the price.

"For 13 years the Trump Corporation and the Trump Payroll Corporation got away with a scheme that awarded high-level executives with lavish perks and compensation while intentionally concealing the benefits from the taxing authorities to avoid paying taxes.

"Today's verdict holds these Trump companies accountable for their long-running criminal scheme, in addition to Chief Financial Officer Allen Weisselberg, who has pled guilty, testified at trial and will now be sentenced to serve time in jail."

Neither was Hillary but Republicans still conducted 8(?) Benghazi trials anyway. LOL

I don't recall any such trials, merely investigations that confirmed she had lied about the attack so that Obama could be reelected......be that as it may, Trump has not been convicted of anything.......
