It would be perfect for a 4 or 5 men team. One is the driver. One with the mounted machine gun and possibly grenade or missile launcher. One full of metal that would set off metal detectors within 10 mile radius being on the lookout, checking 360 degrees. One inside to supply the ammo needed.

Not a gimmick. It's really good at transporting large numbers of infantry troops over rough terrain. Ten to twenty of them can put an infantry company (+/- 200 men) almost anywhere you want them.

Armored personnel carriers like the M113 are designed to carry infantry troops across modern battlefields alongside tanks. They can be equipped with a range of weapons: heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, antitank missiles or even large cannons similar to those mounted on tanks. It’s not clear what weapons, if any, will be on the Texas Guard’s M113s at the border.

Such vehicles are by definition bulletproof and can withstand small explosions. In the civilian world, lighter, wheeled armored personnel carriers are sometimes used to carry police SWAT teams.

The real story here is that a poster who claims to be a military vet is confusing an M113 with a tank.

I would tend to agree with you if the cartels had heavy weapons (mortars, heavy machine guns and anti-tank weapons). Right now, it seems it's mostly cross-border small arms fire.

The cartels do have antitank weapons. Those are AMRs (Anti-Material Rifle) capable of penetrating an M113. The cylinder thing behind them is a grenade launcher. There's an RPG rocket lying under the AMR's and grenades for that launcher next to them. So the cartels are capable of considerable war making with government law enforcement.

What do you think would happen if they used those against Americans on our side of the border? Ever hear of General Pershing and his expedition against Pancho Villa? Regardless if you do, I'm sure the Mexican government remembers it well.

Despite fucking morons like Trump, American leaders have worked with Mexican leaders to fight the cartels. I've seen their military ops while traveling down there, especially in the Chihuahua region. Mexico knows that if the Cartels were stupid enough to go against the US military on our side of the border that their best option is to simply stand aside and let a US airstrike take out the heads of the Cartels.

We literally know where these fuckers live. Just attacking them over drugs Americans gleefully buy would violate international law. An attack by the Cartels on American forces would give us the justification to carpet bomb their homes.
