Was appointing a Special Counsel for Trump the right thing to do?

The right won't be appeased. Should Garland have taken the responsibility himself?

What the hell do you mean was it "the right thing to do"? You got a dangerous, desperate arch criminal in possession of the most important secrets in the U.S. government, and he's not even in jail awaiting trial! Sooooo glad the magnificent FBI cracked this so expeditiously!

How did he organize it?

I agree that he is guilty, but I see evidentiary issues with hearsay and free speech, based on the evidence I know about.

He called a rally at the exact same time that a joint congress was certifying the electoral vote count. The rally was right down the street, Think that was a coincidence. he organized the speakers and controlled the messaging. Trump was responsible.

Who was the rally for? Trump knew the Capitol building was closed. All of Congress was inside, in session.

That was the point. He wanted to stop the counting of electoral votes. He delayed it by several hours. If they got Pence into that car, it would likely not have happened.

Garland thought it was the right thing to do, but legal experts I've listened to think it was not needed. Even though there's a Special Prosecutor, it's Garland, ultimately who will have to decide whether or not to indict and sign off on it. So the appearance of impartiality goes away anyway.

Also, it was brought up how unfair the treatment is trump is getting. If it were any of us, we'd be in jail right now and charged for Mar-a-Lago alone. twump gets 2 years to return the stuff, a Special Master and a Special Prosecutor. It's a bad look for Garland. And for our system of justice.

It does not change much. Garland is still overseeing it. But Smith can focus directly on those specific crimes that Trump did.

And the MAGAs on Fox and under other rocks are painting Smith as a "partisan Democrat" even though he's a registered Independent. I am so fucking ashamed of Republicans right now.

I think so, but from the facts I know now, because of the free, speech, implications, I think it’s a judgment call.

Except what twump was doing he was doing AS PRESIDENT. People who attacked us thought they were following the "president's orders". I really think that changes the game.

The rally itself does not exist as an "island" or a separate incident. The rally was the last step before the culmination of the plan which was to set an armed mob on members of Congress and the Vice President. twump was one of the planners along with the other shit skulls holed up in the Wilard Hotel.

Yes. And we have testimony from the White House Counsel that a meeting in the Whitehouse took place where they heatedly discussed plans to overthrow the government and use fake electors.

Right, so twump's not in trouble for just his speech at this rally and on Twitter while it was happening, but the fact that the attack was premeditated by twump and others.
