Anti intellectualism...

There is much evidence to support the assertion that hiring of conservative college professors is stifled at most major universities by their overwhelmingly liberal staffs. This blows your theory about tolerance and diversity and by extension, your closed-minded assumption about the right.
Well it sure as hell aint that way in the science department. I worked in the engineering Dept at Ohio State and no greater bastion of anal retentive conservatives exist on this planet. You've also haven't attended medical school or any of the graduate schools in the health arts. The grad school I attended the Proffs were virtually all intensely conservative.

I constantly fight the "anti-intellectual" attitude. I feel that I have the "capacity for rational and intelligent thought." I feel that I am "rational." But because I am very religious I am thought of as being "anti-intellectual."

Admittedly this label probably stems from the rejection [by many religious people] of Science over God in the theory of evolution, homosexuality, abortion and such.....and some on the religious side take it to the nth degree causing much animosity between the two groups.
I know what you mean. Why do people propagate these false paradigms? One can be both religious and rational, believe in faith and be intelligent.

It amazes me how many people, because I have a science education, believe that I am an athiest.

Are we really a nation that wants to engage in so much anti intellectualism?

Seriously, an attack on people who have been educated is an attack on thousands of years of study and hard work at learning.

Many things come from being educated.

This does not deminish the fact that new novel and important discoveries can come from those who are not intellectual, but both are valuable. Were our founding fathers not intellectuals?

Do we want to discount all of science because it came almost exculsivly from educated people? Do we distrust a discovery because it came from an intellectual?

Is this just a way of lying to the masses, denying a scientific discovery merely because it came from an intellectual? Evolution is a great example...

Too late brother.

America is a stupid country just chock full of morons .. and the world knows it.

What makes you think I haven't? Now please answer the question. What is common about sense?
Your question is irrelevant but I'll answer the question that you should have asked: what is common sense? Its the ability to easily see truths as well as cause and effect.

For example, cutting taxes and reducing regulation is good for the economy. Intellectuals tend to mull over this, disbelieve it and try to come up with inane examples to justify their beliefs. Yet common sense tells us that its true, and every time its tried it works.

Since science is a field of plain facts your assertion is likely to be true. Among the fields that influence politics and culture the most, however, liberals tend to dominate.

College Faculties A Most Liberal Lot, Study Finds

College faculties, long assumed to be a liberal bastion, lean further to the left than even the most conspiratorial conservatives might have imagined, a new study says.

By their own description, 72 percent of those teaching at American universities and colleges are liberal and 15 percent are conservative, says the study being published this week. The imbalance is almost as striking in partisan terms, with 50 percent of the faculty members surveyed identifying themselves as Democrats and 11 percent as Republicans.

Harvard's faculty of arts and sciences hit President Lawrence Summers with a vote of no confidence after he privately wondered about the abilities of women in science and math. (Steven Senne -- AP)

The disparity is even more pronounced at the most elite schools, where, according to the study, 87 percent of faculty are liberal and 13 percent are conservative.

"What's most striking is how few conservatives there are in any field," said Robert Lichter, a professor at George Mason University and a co-author of the study. "There was no field we studied in which there were more conservatives than liberals or more Republicans than Democrats. It's a very homogenous environment, not just in the places you'd expect to be dominated by liberals."

Sense is very common. It's only elitists who believe everyone else is stupid because they're not totalitarian assholes.
Oh dude your full of shit. There's truth to the old truism that education is great for ignorance but it does nothing for stupidity and if you had a college degree you'd be living proof of that.

There is no such thing as "common sense". The term is an oxymoron. Just because you have an advanced education does not mean you would have sense. But that does not by default mean that you with your GED by proxy have sense.

Besides, though there is much good to be said for sense, it aint all that it's cracked up to be. If I had listened to "common sense" I'd be married to some over fed, under loved fat bottomed farm girl that grew up next door to me. Instead I listened to my uncommon sense and went half way around the world to marry a beautiful Asian girl that I was head over heels in love with and let me tell you...in this example, common sense was highly over rated.

I didn't ask you "What is common sense?" I asked you "What is common about sense?". Please answer the question and yes, it is relevent.

And would it be "common sense" to cut taxes when you are all ready running budget deficits, then increase spending and then borrow money to pay for increased spending like the Republicans have done? That doesn't strike me as sensical at all. Is it sensible to allow greedy Wall Street bankers to destroy our financial institutions via unregulated gambling and speculation? Your logic, pardon me for observing, doesn't make "sense".

You've got the wrong definition for common sense.

Your question stems from my statement: "Educated people often lack common sense." In other words, there is noting common about common sense. You're asking about "sense", which is different than "common sense".

You need to get laid or check your meds. :cof1:

You better check your meds. You just agreed with my point. There is nothing common about having sense. Though you are right. I do need to get laid. My little Pinay Princess hasn't given me any loven since this weekend.

Not to mention I really put my foot in my mouth last night. Women! Arrrrgggghhh!!!

This shows that kids coming out of our colleges are brainwashed by liberal ideology.

No, it just goes to show you there's nothing more worthless then a conservative education. Why do you think almost all acredited colleges and universities are "LIBERAL" Arts schools? Cause not even conservatives are stupid enough to handicap their children with a conservative education! LOL

What's even more ironic is that virtually evertime I've heard someone make such an ignorant comment it's almost always from someone who never went to college and has no idea what college is about and therefore doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

Your anecdotal experience doesn't reverse the reality though. Colleges are basically elitist indoctrination centers.

It's really a shame you are in so much denial.
