261k jobs created in October

There are obviously problems w/ the economy - but it's not the Depression-era despair that conservatives keep hammering on every day.

It's very mixed. Jobs-wise, this economy is very solid. All things considered w/ the events & circumstances of the past 5 years or so, we're not in that bad of a place.

24 months ago Trump practically guaranteed that if Biden were elected there would be a massive economic depression.

They said the same about Obama's stimulus - which actually gave us the longest recovery in decades.

It was the weakest economic recovery since WWII. The Biden Administration felt the reason for that was the 2009 stimulus wasn’t big enough so they were determined not to make the same mistake twice, thus why they passed the massive stimulus in 2021. Of course they were fighting the last war and what the economy needed this time was not a massive stimulus. Thus it was a big contributor to the inflation we face today.

"Weakest economic recovery" sounds like weak criticism, and I've heard that many times. It was a long recovery, and times were pretty good. It wasn't recession, and it certainly wasn't the Depression that many on the right predicted.

The right's "plan" at that time was austerity - and we have seen how that worked around the globe. It doesn't. Keynesian economics is generally the right course in those circumstances.

I disagree on inflation. We wouldn't have this inflation w/out the pandemic.

Sure does look like it. I have a lot of problems with claims that Trump did not do enough about the Georgia elections as well, he was very clear in his warnings.

He was also pretty clear on the phone audio we've all heard, where he is trying to pressure an election official in GA to "find" just enough votes for him to win the state.

Can you imagine the right's reaction if there as anything like that on Biden?

You can proclaim it weak criticism but it’s factual. I could deluge you with articles showing this. I’m not stating something
that’s out of the mainstream.

COVID was the impetus for our issues but that doesn’t mean any response is ok/acceptable. Flooding the market with fiscal and monetary stimulus like we did played a major role in inflation. Think about it, if there were no major repercussions why wouldn’t we just print money forever?

So, we're in a Depression?

It's a rhetorical question. We're not.

Does your EBT card go as far as it did 2 years ago? I think not.

My 401K took a slashing (yeah, I know, you don't know what that is).
EVERYTHING else is more expensive because diesel is $6+ a gallon.

No one is saying this is a great economy.

But it's simply inaccurate to say we're in a "Depression." These are economic terms, with economic definitions. We are nowhere close to a Depression.

I don't disagree that it was a "weak" recovery. But there are a million miles between that, that the Depression that many on the right were guaranteeing.

I don't agree w/ how the Fed has handled things - but COVID created a unique set of challenges. I'm not that economically literate to question what was done, or offer alternatives.

Trump guaranteed Biden would cause a depression.

Republicans predicted Obamacare would crash the economy.

Republicans predicted Clinton's Landmark 1994 budget deal would cause a recession.
