Diesel supply in US at 25 days

You dismiss wind & solar - but think that something we have never even tried on a mass scale is the answer for the future?

A whole lotta wishful thinking there. I'm not prepared to wager humanity's future on that.

We use oil and gas all the time. We keep finding more of it too. We have also invented new ways (like fracking) to get more oil out of existing wells than before. On the other hand, wind and solar simply don't work because the math, science, and engineering prove they don't. It's only politics that is forcing their use.

What percentage of virtue signaling, elite northern white libs will be using solar panels and windmills to heat their homes this Winter?

And what will they do when the Sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing?

It's out of our hands, anyway. Eventually, circumstances will force our hand, and we'll have to get off fossil fuels. If it's not in our lifetime, it will most certainly be in the lifetimes of the next generation.

We can start to gradually transition now, or we can wait until it's a crisis. We're more programmed as a species for the latter option.

I don't know; what will the virtue signaling "drill, baby, drill" crowd do when we start really running low on oil?

Oh, I know, I know. That won't happen. There is some sort of magical infinite well that's somewhere down a rabbit hole, that will fuel billions of people for thousands of years.

I have no real problem with that, but I want what works and that is nuclear + hydrogen or ammonia. It isn't solar, wind, and batteries. The problem is that politics is dominating the discussion not science and engineering.

I recall "scientific' articles from the 70's claiming we'd be out of oil by 2000. :dunno:

When oil runs out in 300 to 1,000 years, we will use coal, or whatever is cheaper. The consumer will make their own decisions, instead of having a nazi white lib, flying on a private jet, ... order them around.

Tucker again made the mistake of claiming that we are likely to run out in less than a month, which is disappointing, but otherwise he is right. OilPrice.com which tends to be really good claims that the problem is getting worse not better.

What's the big deal? I drive an EV. You should too. Then you wouldn't have to always wet your panties over oil prices, Hackewe10

Voltage drop? How does the voltage drop? Voltage in an AC electrical system is constant, it is amperage and inductance that vary (the combination is impeded load).

Voltage always drops in a power line. Try starting an air compressor on a long, thin extension cord.

At 2200 square feet, including the bedroom basement, I wouldn't call my cabin a mansion. I designed, built in 2005 with energy efficiency being a top priority. It is well insulated, with a Burnham high efficiency oil boiler for heat and hot water. No energy-wasting chimney. The boiler is located in my insulated basement garage and the stainless steel vent passes 15 feet horizontally over the conditioned portion of the basement, increasing the efficiency above its stated rating. At its stated rating, current fuel cost, I estimate a net output of 21,600 net BTU per dollar. With my setup, I may get a bit more, say 22,800.

I also have a co-axial vented propane stove, Vermont Castings so highest quality and efficiency. Net BTU/$ is 20,900, so that costs a little more to run than fuel oil.

Since we have cold winters here at high elevation heat pumps are wishful thinking. They go into full electric mode, and the cost of a KWH here in the mountains (TVA sourced) is twice what it it in the Piedmont (with Duke Energy). Most homes here are part-time use "vacation" homes and were built all-electric, without forward thinking of heating costs, and the owners pay dearly during the heating season. In fact on cold weekends they use so much electricity, that the voltage drop is a big issue to commercial users here.

Sounds like you are living the Highlife in that Mountain Cabin. I'm jealous, as I've always wanted to do that. And may still.

And I've always wanted to get off this Grid thing too. My son and I are thinking about moving to the Country and building something new and alternative.

It's nice to know others who took the "Green Acres" route. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks!

Diesel does smell awfully bad, though.

It amazes me that republicans think we should back the Handmaid's Tale Party because we're sharing in the global inflation.

They are such totally irredeemable dumb fucks.

If I didn't viscerally hate them, there would be something seriously wrong with me.
But I do and there isn't.

No more than it's been in the past.

Gas is much more expensive, propane and coal are way up too.
Even wood if you don't cut and split it yourself.

Home heating will be much more expensive than it was 2 years ago.

Yeah, thanks. Take it out of my 401K, right?

I know it is an election season RB.

And so we all go to our corners and come out fighting and head to the polls to save our party.

Let's just all vote to save our Country instead of our party. Because I am tired of seeing our country so divided by politics.

I wish we could all win.

I also wish someone would come along that is a Uniter and not a Divider that we could all find some kind of consensus on. NO MORE OLD FARTS!

I don't think old farts is the answer. Anyone that's been hanging around Washington for any length of time is already hated too much by their opposition.

I want to see some new younger faces, with new ideas popular to both sides of the aisle.

Anyway, good luck at the Polls! I hope the outcome gives you some new hope and inspiration.

Probably 50-70 years. And it's not much of an energy plan to say that when that happens, we'll just use coal or whatever.

Consumers aren't involved w/ future planning for sustainability. Consumers will always generally go for the cheapest source. The "market" isn't going to save us if we run out of oil. It will take much too long to transition the infrastructure at that point.

I favor a kitchen sink approach. Or, to compare it to investing - diversify. Try not to have all of our eggs in one basket, or even a few baskets.

If I accept that you're correct about wind & solar (which I don't, but just for discussion purposes) - I'd still argue that they could be excellent supplementary sources for a more comprehensive plan. I go back & forth on nuclear, but it is clean in the short term. Fusion is intriguing.

I just hope it lowers the cost of living, and the stock market goes back up so I recoup some of my losses!
