Republican leaders cite those attacks to exonerate themselves of any responsibility for political violence. “Violence is up across the board,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said on Sunday, arguing that it’s “unfair” to blame anti-Pelosi rhetoric for the assault on Pelosi’s husband.

So please don’t accept the GOP framing of the assault on Paul Pelosi as evidence of a problem plaguing “both sides of the aisle.” Political violence in America is being driven primarily by the far right, not the far left, and the far right is much closer to the mainstream of the Republican Party than the far left is to the Democratic Party.

It should not be controversial to say that America has a major problem with right-wing political violence. The evidence continues to accumulate — yet the GOP continues to deny responsibility for this horrifying trend.

On Friday, a man enflamed by right-wing conspiracy theories (including QAnon) entered the San Francisco home of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and attacked her 82-year-old husband with a hammer, fracturing Paul Pelosi’s skull. “Where is Nancy?” he reportedly shouted, echoing the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, at President Donald Trump’s instigation. This comes after years of Republican demonization of the House speaker, a figure of hatred for the right rivaled only by Hillary Clinton.

The former president and his followers use violent rhetoric of extremes: Trump calls President Biden an “enemy of the state,” attacks the FBI as “monsters,” refers to the “now Communist USA” and even wrote that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has a “DEATH WISH” for disagreeing with him. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has expressed support for executing Nancy Pelosi and other leading Democrats. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Tex.) has tweeted that “the America Last Marxists … are radically and systematically DESTROYING our country.”
 
Political violence is being driven by the lunatic right, of course, but it doesn't seem to be encouraging the left to arm itself.
There isn't enough hard left, and there's far too much lukewarm left [see Biden supporters].

Things will not just work out, but the left is handicapped by its Pollyanna attitudes.

They can frame it all they like but when a bunch of kids end up dead on the evening news, they'll have to do something about it.

I don't remember advocating gallows. I would settle for lethal injection, and would even agree to anesthesia first.
Just get rid of the motherfuckers for the good of civilized people.

violence is up because the left has been pushing one size fits all policies for a long, long time, and Americans can no longer get along

We have always had that problem on the Left. We support candidates who are (mostly) thoughtful, rational, and willing to see all sides of an issue. The Reichwing, on the other hand, generally prefers candidates who are bullying, bloviating uncompromising obstructionists able to only see in black-and-white. This of course is a handicap for the Left, and makes our guys appear to be weak, at least to the RW.

This is why they hate and fear AOC; she's more like them than they care to admit.
 
there was a point I made a while back about BOTH sides driving the political violence............that maybe it's happening because you dumb fucks continually support authoritarian nazi fucks who hate your freedom and are trying to control everything about your lives.............the resulting finger pointing by BOTH sides, along with the denials of lawmakers being nazis, tells us all that you NEED that authoritarian guidance and because of that, you believe everyone else needs it as well.
