When did we become so afraid of opinions that are unlike our own?

Over 260 people from the literary world signed off on an open letter to Penguin Random House to criticize their decision to publish the book and ask them to "re-evaluate."

WTF? We're seeing this more & more (and sorry - it's on both sides). We don't want to hear opposing opinions. We just want to shut them down.

That's not how this whole thing works. Our founders envisioned a "marketplace of ideas." If you don't like an idea, or disagree with it, you're supposed to offer an idea that is more compelling & more persuasive. If it's a better idea, it will win out in the marketplace. If it's not, you go back to the drawing board.

I am not going to read the book anyway. But with a life time job, maybe a Supreme court judge should have to donate the money from the book.
