Because that is the way Russians think. They want luxury items, and culture. They want to be in the center of things. To them, the countryside is for peasants.

I have spoken with hundreds if Russians via Ham Radio and that is not what I have gleamed from them, Walter.
I have friends at the VOR (Voice of Russia) and they don’t speak that way.

I have never been about that old European outlook on life. I am more a suburban American.
I am just reporting how Russians see the world. Huge numbers of Russian models are not desperate to move into your trailer park a thousand miles from any city. They want to be able to go out to eat at a nice restaurant. They want to shop at a fine store. Those are not things they identify with the countryside.

There are no trailer parks where I live, Walter, only gated, guarded golf communities.
Atlanta is only 30 miles away, lots of restaurants, fine stores. Peachtree City near to my home, has fine restaurants and shops.

Odd, if someone accused me of betraying America for money, my main concern would not be to keep how much money a secret. I would stress I would never accept money to betray America.
Atlanta would start seeming like a world class city to Russians. Peachtree would NOT be a world class city.
On a side note, I love Peachtree's use of golf carts, but that does not interest Russian women.
In total, I have lived about a year of my life in Russia. I could not tell you how many Russians I have spoken to, but it has to be in the thousands.

I speak Spanish and I am conversant in Italian. I tried to learn Russian but gave up the first day, Walter.
