I was born in 1946*, so I was in elementary school when rock and roll took off in the 1950s.
My parents are the ones who said it about rock and roll. they grew up in the big band era, and I'll be the first to confess that those big bands were really good.

I like music from multiple generations and genres, but while some people obviously do have an emotional response to hip hop, it's just noise to me.
I really like only certain, mostly early, sub-genres of rock and roll, too.

To each his own, of course.

*same year as Bill Clinton, Dubya, and the orangutan Trump.

I meant to say people back in the day at your current age probably said that about rock n' roll (such as your parents), not you.
