Oz vs. Fetterman (Lurch) debate

Damn, and I thought this was about ME!

Fetterman's doctors say he does not have aphasia, that as a side effect of the stroke he has an auditory processing disorder. It's a hearing disorder, not an intelligence deficit. Why didn't you know this, "doc?"

[FONT=&]Auditory processing disorder (APD) is a hearing condition in which your brain has a problem processing sounds. This can affect how you understand speech and other sounds in your environment. For example, the question, “What color is the couch?” may be heard as “What color is the cow?”

APD is a form of Wernicki's aphasia.

Wernicke's aphasia is one of the three fluent aphasias. The hallmarks of a Wernicke's aphasia are poor auditory processing, fluent speech, and poor repetition.

Poor auditory processing
means that the person with this type of aphasia may have difficulty understanding what you are saying to him. While he may nod or act as though he understands, what he is hearing is often not what you are saying. Fluent speech means that he is speaking in sentences, although the content of those sentences may be full of neologisms and paraphasias. A neologism is made up word, such as when I say "skucker" when I mean to say "cook". A paraphasia can be when I mean to say "cook", but instead I say "sook", or "look". Poor repetition means that they can't repeat what they've said or what you've said.

I'd never heard of him before to be honest but I just can't see how a stroke victim can campaign successfully.

The Moment a Room Full of Fetterman Supporters Fell Silent

ERIE, Pennsylvania—In his highly anticipated debate against Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz, Lt. Gov. John Fetterman was asked to square two conflicting statements: one saying he’s never supported fracking, and another saying he’s always supported fracking.

“Uh, I do support fracking, and, I don’t—I don’t—I support fracking, and I stand, and I do support fracking,” Fetterman said.

As he tried unsuccessfully to square the two opposing sentiments, a debate watch party that’d been largely cheery and jabbing at Oz fell silent.

Some viewers turned to one another, scrunching up their faces and gritting their teeth. One person in the back even let out a groan.

It clearly wasn’t the sort of answer—or overall debate performance—a room full of Fetterman supporters had hoped for. The fracking moment seemed to neatly capture the Lieutenant Governor’s speaking vulnerabilities after his stroke in May, as well as his difficulty Tuesday night in combating Oz’s attacks while maneuvering his auditory processing issues with closed captioning.

Fetterman began Tuesday night’s debate—the only debate in the Pennsylvania Senate race—by warning viewers he would have some difficulty answering questions smoothly.

“I might miss some words in this debate, mush two words together,” Fetterman said, repeating what has become a mantra as he recovered from his stroke in May.

That warning was well-heeded, as Fetterman’s deliberate, sometimes muddled answers struggled to keep up with the ticking clock that dictated the length of his and Oz’s responses.

Fetterman’s halted speech stood in stark contrast to the speed at which Oz raced through his answers, sometimes approaching an auctioneer’s pace.

Some of the answers came more naturally to Fetterman, such as an answer on raising the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour. The Democratic hopeful also scored points with the crowd of about two-dozen Fetterman supporters in Erie for his answers on health care and zingers hitting Oz on his “10 gigantic mansions.” The crowd at times murmured “bullshit” and for Oz to shut up during his turns to speak, all while tucked into the Erie County Democratic Party’s office that was plastered inside and out with Fetterman signs.

“Let’s rally the troops,” Jim Wertz, the chair of the Erie County Democrats, told the group ahead of the debate. “Take care of the big man, I’m sure he’ll be just fine tonight.”

But Fetterman’s speaking issues were clearly present throughout the debate, particularly during the fracking question.

Fetterman cant put ideas together, he spouts slogans ( and had impulse control issue during Oz closing)

The fraking answer tripped him up because he HAD to say he supported fracking or not.
after the mods showed his conflicting statements..he rambled and became unhinged

“Uh, I do support fracking, and, I don’t—I don’t—I support fracking, and I stand, and I do support fracking,” Fetterman said.

The man flip flopped on Fracking and wants to release dangerous criminal from prison. He needs to go home and focus on healing.
I honestly dont think he can follow debate -close captioned or not. he was a train wreck.
he should never have put himself thru this- Pennsylvania will have a radical low performing senator

Nobody around him or in authority should have allowed this to happen, but they did, American is now actually THIS rotted out, we have proof.

If I was the fetterman campaign I would say that the candidate performed like that because the close captioning was too far and that in the senate it would be right in front of him possibly on a personal monitor.

You dont have to debate again and thats probably enough to muddy the waters and just blame it on the format.

For those who want to watch only livestream i could find

That is just painful. It is like watching somebody beat puppies to death with a rock. Oz's answers are the usual political drivel, but Fetterman? That guy isn't firing on all cylinders. He's 5 cans shy of a six-pack...
