He became a public figure with all the publicity and news coverage of his case. You must have learned in 1970's law school that a person can become a public figure based on even unwanted publicity.

He became an icon of a lie filled BLM narrative. He is hardly what I would call a "public" figure. That would be a President, or a movie star or a congress critter.

Free speech and free press laws have always included exceptions for libel and defamation.

Statements were made about the parents. They were accused of being paid performers and crisis actors who perpetuated a hoax and that their murdered children did not exist or were not dead. People gullible enough to believe these stories harassed and threatened the parents resulting in legal damages caused by the false statements of Alex Jones.

And all that MAY be true and jones has a right to raise that possibility. Why were the actual videos of the alleged shooting censored?? That's the evidence that would have proved it happened but we were not allowed to see that.

The judge didn't deny Jones his right to a trial. It was Jones' actions that caused him to lose since Jones refused to provide documents and testimony required by law. If Jones had acted as he was required to he would have had a trial.

That's what the judge says. But the 7th amendment says jones has a right to a jury trial. Judges can't deny that just because they say the defendant is misbehaving.

Free speech is not absolute. Threats, slander, and defamation are examples of speech that can be restricted or subject to civil penalties.

If somebody lied about a member of your family and they received years of threats and harassment because idiots believed those lies, do you think your family member should have some method to stop the idiots?

I never claimed it is applicable to the Kanye West case. I listed reasons it is probably not the same; for example, lack of standing.

I'm fairly certain that the Constitution has a FIFTH Amendment. Jones cannot be compelled to do anything. The Government cannot "compel" you to do anything.

Jones wasn't charged with a crime. He was sued for defamation. Refusing to comply with a civil suit means you automatically lose. Jones lost because he didn't comply with discovery. Jones refused to defend himself so he lost.

I don't know what West said. I was referring to Jones who admitted he lied and was found liable in court.

911 is a different case entirely. You can't libel an event. It must be false and damage the person.

You didn't answer the question about a family member--do you think they should have any recourse against years of threats and harassment based on lies?
