TALLAHASSEE — When police went to arrest Tony Patterson outside his Tampa home in August, he couldn’t believe the reason.

“What is wrong with this state, man?” Patterson protested as he was being escorted to a police car in handcuffs. “Voter fraud? Y’all said anybody with a felony could vote, man.”

Body-worn camera footage recorded by local police captured the confusion and outrage of Hillsborough County residents who found themselves in handcuffs for casting a ballot following investigations by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ new Office of Election Crimes and Security.

“They’re going to pay the price,” DeSantis said during the news conference announcing the arrests.

Of the 19 people arrested, 12 were registered as Democrats and at least 13 are Black, the Times/Herald found.

Clearly this is a fearmongering tactic.

While it does seem a bit petty, these people did apparently break the law and commit a felony by voting when they were ineligible by state law.

Again, what law?

Essentially, in Florida if you are a convicted felon you have to go to court and get your rights restored before you can vote again. I suspect the person arrested didn't know this being stupid fucks--like most felons / convicts are--and went ahead and voted without getting their rights restored.

Like I said, petty but following the letter of the law as currently written.

Took you long enough to find anything just to be contrary, huh?

The devil has it pitch fork shoved up the barbaric concept of fascism too, and to which has been a atrocity that has always been incapable of either supporting or co-existing in a civilized society but that of a atrocity of subhuman animals of a destructive nature against humanity.

then why do you think enforcing this law is fascist?.....

Only some of the law was enforced. Because law regarding voter registration was not enforced their names were left on the voting rolls leaving them to rationally believe they were eligible to vote. Essentially DeSantis is saying Florida residents have a legal duty to keep abreast of the news. The courts should trash these cases without a second look but in Florida who knows.

Earl's lone response is his typical groan, in this case understandable from a fascist sympathizer's point of view. Taking another look it seems not only were names left on the voting rolls, the "felons" received notices from
voting officials telling them they could vote and giving them "voter ID's". But DeSantis had them arrested. Too absurd for words.

I hope they are treated like the two time voters of The Villages, who intentionally committed voter fraud and were given community service for their intention crime.
