Both sides were wrong on COVID

Dems were wrong: shutting down our schools for SO long has hurt this generation of children, academically and socially. That is undeniable at this point.

Republicans were wrong: it wasn't a hoax, and a lot of people died & have long-term problems.

Yet again, partisan differences prevented us from arriving at common sense solutions. Both sides dug in & went further to the extreme of whatever position they had. Just because they hated the other side, and didn't want them to be right.

Will we learn from that?

Nope.

We refuse to learn.

HORSESHIT AS USUAL.

NO ONE SAID "COVID IS A HOAX".

THE "HOAX" WAS THE SHUT DOWNS AND MASK MANDATES....AND, LATER, THE VACCINE MANDATES, ALL OF WHICH CAME FROM THE CORONACRATS.

NO "BOTH SIDES" WERE NOT WRONG.

You're party-line, all the way. You've been posting here for ages, and I doubt you could produce a single post that wasn't as party-line as the most hardcore partisan on here.

So, I'll take that w/ a grain of salt.

It was an emergency

Yes we had to close them down

Now we have to deal with the fallout

Life is like that

We erred on the side of saving lives. I agreed at the time.

But in hindsight, it was an overreaction. There were some hard consequences for the teens and twenties among us.

Our medical system had to be kept from collapsing

We managed to save it

We’re their bad sides to our needed reaction?

Yes

Mental illness due to isolation and stress

Hard decisions sometimes have to be made

Hind sight always leaves out a few things

We had to stop the spread

We had to make people isolate

We did the right thing

We erred on the side of not having our medical system completely collapse

It nearly did dude

We came really fucking close to mass infection and no medical staff to deal with it

You are forgetting aspects

People sick and dying at home from covid

Heart attacks killing people who would survive with care

People getting no cancer care and dying

Accident victims dying without treatment

We came very close

It seems like ancient history, and it's easy to forget the reality at the time. N.Y/N.J./California were hit first, no doubt due to the airports. By the time the truth was out, it was too late. The trump virus had already been spreading for 3 months or more.

Middle of the country had very little. That's when the shit show started. If only this wasn't an election issue by MAGA, we might not have needed to shut down schools for so long. Can't get fully on board with the 'wrong' moniker given that the fight against common sense measures was idiotic.

Shutting down schools for so long will have profound consequences in years to come, especially amongst the poor and minorities.

Unnecessary, if only we could have come up with a national policy.

It was an election year

No wonder Congress has a 7% approval rating.

Props for acknowledging this. Not easy in such a partisan environment. When 'science said' it was ok for schools to reopen we still kept a bunch of them closed.

This is anecdotal but I can speak personally to it being in California where we kept them closed longer than most. I heard from both friends but closer than that my sister and the effect/damage it did to her three kids. And as you stated the details/data has been coming out about the short and long term damage.

You're right, partisans on either side rarely ever want to acknowledge something that contradicts a strongly held belief and you're seeing it in this thread. But the school sh*t is serious.
