GOP Senator Proposes "Temporary" End to Social Security and Medicare

Rick Scott who isn't a nobody among GOP senators has proposed ending Social Security and Medicare legislation in five years. Ending it. Letting the law for both "sunset" along with other federal legislation.

Scott further says he doesn't want the end to be permanent, rather that Congress would then pass better Social Security and better Medicare than we now have. You can take it from there depending on your faith.

In the same “Fox News Sunday” interview featured in the DSCC ad and tweet, Scott went on to say that he had no intention of eliminating Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid.

“Here’s what’s happening,” Scott said. “No one that I know of wants to sunset Medicare or Social Security, but what we’re doing is we don’t even talk about it. Medicare goes bankrupt in four years. Social Security goes bankrupt in 12 years. I think we ought to figure out how we preserve those programs. Every program that we care about, we ought to stop and take the time to preserve those programs.”

Earl, if something goes wrong with SS or Medicare it will not go over good for the Scumlican.

I've been hearing the same thing about the programs "going broke in ___ years" my entire adult life. It's always (R)s saying it, in preface to suggesting getting rid of the programs altogether.

Republiqans hate anything that benefits the citizens, even if they paid into it their whole working lives. It takes too much $$ away from the corporations that they represent.

Earl is like every other trained seal in the Republican zoo, ready when asked to give his vote to politicians who would take away his lifeline. Liberals like me on the other hand, for whom SS is no guarantee in our futures, are
more willing to support Earl's lifeline than he is.
 
I am sure we can trust the GOP on this, they have such a long history of passionately fighting for and passing social welfare legislation.

Trained seals (in the far left Democrat Socialist zoo) would describe trying to improve SS and Medicare as “taking away his lifeline.”

If Social Security and Medicare were being proposed for the first time, liberals would be supportive, the trained seals like Earl who would benefit mostly would do as told and oppose the bills then depend as they always have on liberals to extend them lifelines.

I can't speak to the specifics of Scott's plan but to the idea of why it needs to be better is because the system isn't sustainable. Current benefit levels will be cut in the future if the system stays on its current path (to one who's older they may not give a sh*t, fair enough, but for the longevity of the program something has to be done).

So how, exactly, would you "improve" Medicare and Social Security, pEarl? Means-testing? Doesn't that tend to punish those who have worked hard and invested/saved for their future retirement? You claim to be a retired veteran; should we "improve" your retirement plan and VA benefits while we're at it? After all, you and your million comrades are collecting taxpayer bucks too. Why aren't you interested in "improving" your benefits?
