You go into a bank. You want a loan. They hand you a form to list your net worth. Can you state to the penny, to the dollar what you and your assets are really worth? How much is your house (assuming on some slim chance you own one) is worth? How much your investments are really worth? No, you can't and neither can I. The only way to know for sure is sell them, because that's what they're actually worth.

Trump made estimates, like everybody does. That isn't "lying" no matter how much you want it to be. It only becomes "lying" if the numbers are so far off that you end up not being able to pay back the loan.

The tax authorities are the same exact way. You can't always state to the penny or dollar what something is valued at. You estimate. Being off some is okay, just making some wild assed number up that bears no resemblance to reality isn't. It's up to the tax people to verify those numbers. THAT'S WHY THEY DO AUDITS!

How can we? I’m sure it’s very complicated. That’s what lawsuits and trials are for- to resolve disagreements. I suspect the Trump organization and the DA will agree to a settlement.
