Congress eyes strongest response yet to Jan. 6 attack

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House will vote on an overhaul of a centuries-old election law, an effort to prevent future presidential candidates from trying to subvert the popular will.

The legislation under consideration beginning Wednesday is a direct response to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and former President Donald Trump’s efforts to find a way around the Electoral Count Act, an arcane 1800s-era law that governs, along with the U.S. Constitution, how states and Congress certify electors and declare presidential election winners.

While that process has long been routine and ceremonial, Trump and a group of his aides and lawyers tried to exploit loopholes in the law in an attempt to overturn his defeat.

Repetition fallacy (chanting).

the states amend it as you note in your post.

Exactly. The States are the owners of the Constitution of the United States. They created it. They own it. They are the only ones that can modify it. They are the only ones that can destroy it (and thus dissolve the federal government).

State secretaries have no authority to certify the election of electoral college members.

It is the job of the Secretaries of State of both oversee and certify elections. It's only been that way for 250 years so I understand why it takes time for everyone to catch up.

If secretaries of state are so "powerless" why was twump trying to get Brad Raffensberger to make up votes?

You lost this one.

The old chant...Buzzword fallacies...repetition fallacy.

All true. If it weren't for elected Republicans lying, covering, disallowing witnesses at impeachments, twump would have been gone or in jail a long time ago. But, people like you and the Republicans still want an all-white, all-Christian, all "gays stay in the closet" society - sorry, you lost out to the good guys.

Chanting...Buzzword fallacies...repetition fallacy...assumption of victory fallacy...attempted proof by void.
