With regard to EVs, it looks like this:

[1] EV's are now available for you to purchase.
[2] You didn't purchase enough EVs on your own?? Well, here are some government subsidies if you purchase EVs.
[3] You didn't purchase enough EVs even with the bribes?? Well, now we're going to ban gasoline vehicles and otherwise make your life into a living hell if you still wish to have a gasoline vehicle.

And that isn't nearly all of the steps either... the authoritarian fiats: can, already do, and eventually will, get much worse...

If this proves true, it means Tesla is on track for a record quarter by any carmaker delivering electric cars – and could easily have delivered more than half of the number of 17,000 or so electric vehicles sold industry-wide in the whole of 2021.

None, but if I had to offer a reason, I’d say Americans have been spoiled, expect instant gratification, when complex issues arise, they want quick and simple answers, which leaves them open to demagoguery, melodrama, and we certainly have ample individuals eager to make money pimping hate and division

Quite correct. A brownout is far more dangerous in that respect than a blackout. If the voltage and frequency of electrical power varies more than about 10% +/- the rated value, you start having serious issues with almost everything hooked up to it and running.
