Ukraine Armor closes in on ' fortress ' Kharkiv.

We need solid and consistent red lines to avoid WWIII. You would think that just giving in to Putin on everything would avoid WWIII, but Putin would just demand more and more until we had WWIII anyway. We learned that the hard way with Hitler, and WWII.

You neglect the fact that Hitler came to power on the back of crushing WW1 reparation payments.

Some dumbass in the White House thought that sanctioning Russia would be bad for Putin. Still, most Americans vote for an idiot.

You state a common misconception. Actually, Hitler came to power 12 years after the worst of the reparations and the hyperinflation. There was a huge amount of time separating the two. And then he was in power for 8 more years before actually starting a war.

Putin has a similar timeline. A decade after the collapse of the USSR he came to power, and then a decade later he started wars.

Germans were resentful. Hitler offered them renewed status. Your piddling ' time gap ' reasoning doesn't cut it.

That was then. Today, Putin is riding a growing wave of sanctions-hatred. Not so smart, Klepto Joe.

Germans were resentful.

I was not alive in 1930's Germany, but I did travel to Russia between 1991 and 2011, and I can tell you Russians were very resentful.

Recently I saw someone here claiming Gorbachev was living in Switzerland. He was actually living in Russia. Putin did not fear Gorbachev, because Russians did not respect him. They were resentful of him being such a failure (in their eyes), and not even making a profit off it. They disdained and ignored him.

Today, Putin is riding a growing wave of sanctions-hatred.

Putin came to power long BEFORE the sanctions. He rode a wave of anger over the collapse of the Soviet Union which was very similar to the anger over the collapse of the German Empire.

Hitler was preceded by Paul von Hindenburg, who was born in Posen, The Kingdom of Prussia. After WWI, Posen became part of the newly formed Poland. He was a 73 year old man who was banned from going to the estate of his family, where he was born, because it was in a foreign country. But he settled in Neudeck, Germany, which was as close to Posen as he could get... He did not live to see it, but after WWII Neudeck became part of Poland, and again his family was banned from going there. Almost 50 years after WWII, his family was finally allowed to visit their former estates in Posen and Neudeck.

There were millions of other Germans who were pushed out of their homes by new countries... AND THEY WERE NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT.

There are likewise millions of Russians who can no longer freely go to Estonia, or Ukraine. These used to be part of their country, but are no longer. Putin adds to that Finland, much of Poland, and Alaska that used to be Russian. They want their empire back.

Putin came to power long BEFORE the sanctions.

I said that Putin TODAY is riding a waver of anger over sanctions. You continually allow a little knowledge to deform your contributions. You're a blowhard, Walt - and that's putting it kindly.

There are an awful lot of people around Putin dying... Usually when you are successfully riding a wave, there is no need to kill those around you, nor any danger of those around you killing you.

But what do I know. Seriously, Kremlinology is mostly just guessing. Neither I nor Moon really know.

I am willing to admit what I do not know, unlike many others, which makes me less of a blowhard.

Walt
Neither I nor Moon really know.

That's right. Everybody draws their 'conclusions' from the available press- and that's why censorship is EVERYBODY'S enemy - and the reason for publicizing opposing positions.
