Fascism, racism, "ethnic identity" are just some of the social problems that have been brewing in various European countries for some time now.

I have friends and acquaintances who are native born Swedes or have lived/worked in the country for a good period of time. About 25 years ago a US Navy guy stationed there told me that the Swedes had a problem with the Vietnamese refugees that took up asylum there. Bottom line: the Swedes were justified in enforcing rules to the Vietnamese that they would have to adhere to Swedish customs (language, etc.) and NOT create a "little Saigon" in their country. Mind you, they weren't saying they had to renounce their ethnicity, language etc.

What is NOT justified is that for decades now you have a growing population of brown, black, tan, yellow and red folk who have inter married with native Swedes, raised kids there who are Swedes. This disturbs some of the older generation Swedes who are not taking too kindly to seeing these folks as the "norm" instead of the exception.

Nice, appreciate that. I think states (nations) have a right to decide who lives there or to regulate who comes in to live. I differ from some Democrats who think all immigration is good immigration. That said, I don't actually care about immigration.

That's kind of a generalized statement, because what's being overshadowed by the right wing noise machine about illegal immigrants and the border is that our immigration policies actually do NOT "let everyone in". Remember when the Haitian refugees were kept in "detainment" camps for God knows how long, while Cuban refugees were fast tracked? And no one asks how many political asylum applicants are turned away.

Our system isn't perfect, and all the little details need to be addressed with equal scrutiny. Just saying

You state, "huge problems in poverty & crime", yet provide no proof of that hubris (meaning it exists, but not to the suggested proportions you give). If I missed it in you links, please cut & paste or highlight it.

Sure- and at home. The root causes are wars- usually US-inspired- and climatic change- to which the US is a major contributor. Both result in the mass movement of populations.
It's not ' unnatural ' for tribes to want to defend their territories from incomers- but those historic incomers have tended to be hostile. Today's incomers are not imperialists looking to rape and pillage- they are refugees , our brothers, sisters and cousins- seeking refuge.
Of course, the resource ability of any locality to support populations is finite- and we are already, as a world, overpopulated. We've seen the politics of immigration swing violently in recent years, the Germans, under Merkel, accepting millions while others favored exclusion by way of walls and watchtowers. Some states, the Chinese, the Burmese, the Israelis, actually favor the ethnic cleansing of their own indigenous populations whilst refusing entry to migrants. Some we condemn, some we approve and America's own internal disputes are centered upon admittance or walls.

It may be too late to address the root causes of wars and climate change. If it isn't then international bodies must put aside their inherent nationalism and work as one. No more UN vetos. If it is, then we're ALL fucked. No survivors, no matter how wealthy.
