The Revolutions Gestapo has had so much time to add and/or remove evidence, and look over everything to see what helps with their hunting down of enemies of the Revolution.

A special master now is largely irrelevant.

I disagree. They knew what they would "discover", they were telegraphing it all along. Special Master has no baggage...
