Putin is running out of rockets, Russia cannot produce them quickly, and no one else will sell to him, so he is buying from North Korea. He is also in talks for the North Koreans to provide military units. So the North Korean Army might be invading Europe...

In other news, Russian soldiers have discovered many of their helmets are made of tin. They look like steal helmets under superficial inspection, but are much cheaper to make. Also, if stepped on, they crumple like soda cans, and are useless in protecting the head from shrapnel. Basically, the Russian arms suppliers have been stealing from the Russian Army for decades.

One of his senior executives had previously been poisoned while visiting a voodoo shaman in Moscow... You can not make this stuff up. What is a voodoo shaman doing in Moscow? Is he from the Caribbean, or a Russian who says he is a voodoo shaman?

Oh, and also, why exactly is Putin murdering his own businessmen? These are men in their positions because of loyalty to Putin.

There have been 8 people tied to Russian energy that have died. Here is the CNBC snippet on the voodoo death; I know you have trouble with getting past the paywall at The Economist. It also has information on the Lukoil Chairman death, which you can search for more news on all this.

Many of the critics of Snyder say that current Russia does not draw on Nazism, but Nazism is not the only fascism. And they definitely draw on the iconography of Nazism. Let's face it, Russians are not cool, and they definitely do not want American cool with our jeans and t shirts. They want well dressed people in uniforms. Hate the Nazis as I do, I do have to admit they had good style in uniforms.

Putin, and many other Russians, are strong fans of a TV series called Seventeen Moments of Spring where a well dressed KGB agent infiltrates the SS. The SS uniform was especially tailored to make the actor look his best, which was impressive in a country of ill fitting clothing. Putin joined the KGB to be like the character from Seventeen Moments of Spring, and went on to be the handler for German Neo-Nazi, Rainer Sonntag.

A Russian diplomat recently said that Russians can suffer like no others, and so therefore sanctions would have little effect on them. He might be sort of right. Russia is a complete train wreck, but might be able to stay a complete train wreck for years, or even decades.

Where he is wrong is saying like no others. Ukrainians can also take suffering amazingly well. They are, slowly, advancing... Taking territory back from the Russians. That gives them hope. Though they were even willing to fight when it seemed hopeless.

A point easily dismissed by a peacetime army but when the sons of Russia are coming home in body bags, that situation will result in resentment, revolt and the fragging of leadership.

Putin killing business leaders will have the same effect as Americans whacking al-Qaeda leadership; it cuts the head off the organization, leaving it to wither and die. Putin is killing his own country. How long before most Russians depose him?

The guy from Lukoil was modestly critical of the Ukraine war, but given the complexities of the Russian criminal underworld, I am reticent to make guesses about the motivation for his murder without more information .

Consider the Arab leaders who said something similar about their own Arab citizens they abused for centuries...until the Internet-ignited Arab Spring.

I have no doubt Russians are sharing information about the outside world and wondering what will happen to their children and grandchildren if this bullshit continues.

The Putinistas don't consider Ukrainians a real nationality, they consider Ukrainians to be little Russians, so I think the statement implicitly acknowledges that all people of the people of the Holy Rus are capable of enduring lots of pain if it is felt necessary.

I think Putin is keen to drag this war into 2024 in the hopes Trump gets back into office.

My friend Vasily, a Russian citizen, wrote on Facebook that Ukraine must win and all Kremlin criminals must be held accountable. He is not the only Russian I have seen express those sentiments.

Rooting for your own country to lose a war is an extraordinary bridge to decide to cross.

Not lose, simply stop making war. Similar to America's Vietnam or, more lately, Afghanistan. How long should a nation spill their own children's blood in a war that cannot be won?

A reputable trained European scholar is a wise choice.


On a day to day basis, I find the independent Russian media to be a valuable source of information. Russian journalists just have a perspective and depth of knowledge that someone writing for CNN does not.
