Now Iran is demanding closure of IAEA probes for 'sustainable' nuclear deal

DUBAI, Sept 5 (Reuters) - Iran is seeking the closure of the U.N. nuclear agency's investigation of its nuclear activities among other guarantees, in order to revive the country's 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, a senior Iranian official said on Monday.

"An end to the agency's probes is part of the guarantees that we are seeking to have a sustainable and durable nuclear agreement," Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani told a televised news conference.

John Bolton isn't someone I'd trust on his own to get things correct. I'd say I tend to think he's correct here, but he's been dead nuts wrong on a lot of stuff in the past.

I agree but think he's right here. Why else would the Iranians demand that the IAEA backs off? They have many underground facilities at Natanz and Fordo which they want to stay shrouded in mystery.

I'm pretty sure the Iranians already have a nuclear weapon but are waiting until they have a stockpile to come out and say so. That would make it impossible for any country to put that genie back in the bottle. If they had one or two and declared they have nukes, or tested one, it is possible other nations might go to war to stop them from getting more. They have a dozen plus, not so much. Then they could really mess things up regionally.
