Days of Kremlin blackmail nearing an end

Russia’s energy influence over Europe ‘is nearly over’ as bloc races to shore up winter gas supplies

Europe's dependence on Russian gas appears to be coming to an end, energy and political analysts say, potentially alleviating the risk of further supply disruptions at a time when many fear Russia could completely cut off deliveries during the winter.

Agathe Demarais, global forecasting director at The Economist Intelligence Unit, a research and advisory firm, told CNBC that the Kremlin appeared to be weaponizing energy supplies and "burning bridges" with Europe while it still could.

Asked whether Russia's energy influence over Europe may be coming to an end, Demarais replied, "Yes. Actually, very much so."

"Europe is heading towards a very difficult winter, probably two years of a very difficult adjustment with a lot of economic pain. But then Europe is essentially going to become more independent with a more diversified mix," Demarais said.

"And what that means is that Russia's energy weapon is going to become moot," she added. "Our view is that Russia knows that and that's why it is already killing off gas supplies or inflicting uncertainty because it knows that if it wants to do damage to Europe it has to do it now. It is a now or never question."

The Kremlin is burning all it's bridges to Europe and the EU. This is the kind of relationship damage that will last for generations and deeply affect the Russian economy for decades to come. I suppose Putin intends to become a Eurasian power, divorced from any kind of meaningful relationship with Europe.

Man, I sure hope so. If the EU can weather a few years of difficulty, the long term benefits are great.

Biden has left him no options. He has destroyed Russo/European commerce and relationships.
What I hope will happen is that there will be a rise of pro-Russian politics in Europe. Europeans must be aware of US attempts to stifle this.
Despite NATO aggression, Europe's future is with Russia, not the United States.

Sure, that sounds crazy NOW- but deep winter is coming.

The EU will be eying America's comfort and profit while it suffers from Biden's war. There are no ' long-term benefits ' from isolation from Europe's greatest land-mass and resource cornucopia.

Europe is terminating it's relationship with Russia because of Putin's war crimes, not because of Biden.

What are the long term benefits to Russia alienating themselves from the EU?

Rogue nations are the most dangerous of all. And Putin is a dangerous leader.

This is Putins war, plain and simple. Ukraine was not a threat, and Europe will get along without Russia. In the meantime, Russia is running low on weapons and ammunition, not to mention the moral of their troops. Why should they be risking their lives for Putins war.

Europeans don't want to be blackmailed by a rogue criminal oligarchy in the Kremlin.

Russia was never integrated into the European economy in any major way until the last 20 years. Europe did fine without Russia for most of the 20th century.

Europe is diversifying so that it cannot be blackmailed by Russian oil, gas, or vodka. They don't sell any technology or consumer goods anyone in Europe wants.

It doesn't give me pleasure to say this, but the Kremlin has burned Russia's bridges to Europe for generations, all for a strip of land along the Sea of Azov.

That is just a terrible fucking trade.

The NATO PR page was boring weeks ago, let alone now.

Your powers of telepathy are increasing weekly. First you could read Putin's mind- then all of Russia's- and now all of Europe's.

With all that power, how can you still be a dumbass ?

A strip of land along the Sea of Azov in exchange for burning bridges with Europe for generations to come is just the worst fucking trade I have ever heard of.

If there is a ray of sun shine in Russia's bad judgment, it's that it will give the European nations the incentive to covert to renewable energy sources.

Dissent in Europe is far wider than the western press dares to report. It will grow as the weather turns colder.

German police clash with protesters at weapons plant amid Ukraine war

German police have used pepper spray and batons to disperse anti-war protesters who were were trying to block the entrance to a weapons factory in Kassel, arresting at least one.

The protest on Friday was held by activists affiliated with the Disarm Rheinmetall movement, which have been calling for protest rallies across the European country in efforts to halt the production and delivery of German-made weapons, including arms destined for the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Rheinmetall AG is a German automotive and weapons manufacturer, headquartered in the city of Düsseldorf.

The protesters had sought to block morning shift workers from entering the factory of Rheinmetall's competitor Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. The group said it had succeeded in shutting down production at the facility for the day.

Protesters also marched through Kassel, where they encountered several more police blockades before heading towards the Rheinmetall building.

Activists posted photos of the protest on social media showing that the company officials had placed black tape over its signage, in an apparent attempt to prevent the appearance of its logo in photographs.

Biden wanted it. He's got it. You supported it.
