Palin loses election bid

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was defeated by Democrat Mary Peltola in a special election for the state’s lone House seat Wednesday night — making the Democrat the first Native Alaskan to be elected to Congress.
Democrats need to make this election a referendum on Trump worship, and on the way Republicans banned reproductive freedom.

They all go at it again in November . Should be interesting.
Peltola would not have a chance against Begich or Palin both Republicans.
I voted for 1. Begich 2. Myself (write-in) 3. Ted Stevens (deceased, write-in) 4. My cat, Boots ( also deceased, write-in)
I still don’t know exactly how this works.
Peltola is serving out Don Young’s term .

The reason Peltola was able to get a majority(51.47%) of the vote was the Begich voters put her down as a second choice. Those Begich voters could not bring themselves to vote for Palin, and therefore Peltola can easily defeat Palin, but probably not Begich. The problem here is Begich cannot defeat Palin.

There is two caveats. There could be some sort of huge change in the voting patterns in the next two months, or slightly more likely, there could be a change in voter turnout.

But it would be wrong to say Peltola stands no chance against Palin. She has already proven she can, and has, won against Palin.

No one got the majority of the first round of voting, so the bottom candidate was eliminated, and their second votes were added to the continuing candidates. In your case, Begich was eliminated, and then your vote was added to yourself (sorry, but you are not a major candidate, so your vote was basically thrown out). A huge number of Begich voters were unwilling to support Palin, so voted for Peltola as their second candidate.
