The format is not as changeable as the actual codes.

If Russia or China is more interested in disrupting a launch, then causing a launch, they could make fake codes, and replace the real ones with the fake ones. Then if the President wanted to launch, he would be launching with fake codes, and it would delay a launch by hours as they figured out what was happening. To do this, they need real codes, even out of date codes, to copy.

Even if they want to launch, understanding what the codes look like would help. Understanding the codes could also help in disrupting the launch messaging system.

And that is just off the top of my head. This stuff is top secret for a good reason. I see no reason to sell it to our enemies.

This just sounds wrong. What good would any of that do when those codes are changed on a regular basis, and to use them you have to have access to a completely separate network? As for nuke information what would be of any real use there? Any codes Trump had, assuming he had them, would be long out-of-date given it's been nearly two years since he left office. Also, why wouldn't the FBI and or national archives have scooped those up on their several trips to Mar a Lago and going through the documents Trump had there?

The format can and probably is changed daily, Walter.

The codes can be changed regularly, but the format and all the infrastructure that creates, takes, and communicates the format is pretty much baked into the cake. It would cost a lot of money and time to replace.

As for daily, there are nuclear subs on the bottom of the ocean, completely out of communication for weeks, that cannot have their codes changed. The codes trump stole have been changed by now, but it cannot be done daily.
