Eventually they will. If not with Putin, then with whatever Russian dictator comes next. It's the advancement of human progress for a society to free themselves. Same for China and other authoritarian shitholes around the world.

What's odd about US politics these days is that we are regressing to authoritarianism. Both major parties are highly authoritarian, with the Party of Trump taking the lead in that category.

In the end, I expect authoritarianism to lose in America, but it may be after our lifetimes. It depends on the collective will of the American people.

Russian energy giant Gazprom announced on Tuesday that gas flows via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline will be stopped from August 31 until September 3 due to maintenance.

Data from the gas pipeline operator, Nord Stream AG, indicates that no gas supplies have been contracted for transportation as of 03:00 Moscow time on August 31.

Gazprom had announced earlier that gas supplies via Nord Stream 1 would be completely stopped from August 31 to September 2 due to maintenance on the only gas compressor unit remaining in operation. Upon completion of the repairs and assuming the unit shows no technical malfunctions, gas transportation will be restored to the level of 33 million cubic meters per day, or 20% of the pipeline’s maximum capacity.

The Russians will not be over-keen to provide the fuel to run the factories which produce the weapons to give to Ukrainian Nazis to kill Russians with.

Europeans won't be over-keen on freezing to death to support NATO hypocrisy either.

NATO's war on Russia is being run by politicians, not populations. The chances of this group of pro-NATO politicians being re-elected do not look good to me.

I suspect that a part of this is all the talk of the West installing energy price caps on Russian products. This is Russia saying "What makes you so sure that we will sell to you at all?"

This is a great place to remember that Hubris is how civilizations tend to die.
