The Capitol Police report to a committee composed of the House and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, and the Architect of the Capitol. They in turn, report to the Speaker of the House and Senate. The Speaker of both chambers is the end of the line for where the buck stops. That means, yes, it is in fact the Speaker's responsibility to protect the Capitol.

That aside, the President can nationalize the National Guard. He cannot do it for use at the US Capitol without the consent of the Speaker because of separation of powers, or did you forget about how the Constitution does that? Thus, Trump called the Speaker days before Jan 6 to offer use of the NG, and she turned that down. It does no good to call up the Guard if you can't deploy them where they're needed.

All that aside, what the hell does that have to do with who ultimately controls the capitol police force? That's what this thread is about.

Levin is wrong. Testimony is testimony - and it's damning for Trump. I really don't see how anyone can still defend this anti-American, anti-Constitution dictator wanna-be. He did what he did, and it had nothing to do with honoring the peaceful transition of power that has been a tradition in this country for centuries.

It was about ego, as everything is w/ Trump. I doubt he even wants to be President again - but he can't mentally handle losing, so he's going to run again just in the hopes that he can erase that.
