Most people, including Lefties, don't know what it is because the answer changes whenever someone defines it.
At it's most base, it's sociology; integrating a slave culture into a free culture. Slavery is as old as written history and still exists in the world today. I fail to see why some people want to make America guilty for all slaver assholes.

Critical race theory (CRT) is a cross-disciplinary intellectual and social movement of civil-rights scholars and activists who seek to examine the intersection of race, society, and law in the United States and to challenge mainstream American liberal approaches to racial justice. The word critical in its name is an academic term that refers to critical thinking, critical theory, and scholarly criticism, rather than criticizing or blaming people.[1][2] CRT is also used in sociology to explain social, political, and legal structures and power distribution through the lens of race.[3][4] For example, the CRT conceptual framework is one way to study racial bias in laws and institutions, such as the how and why of incarceration rates and how sentencing differs among racial groups in the United States.[5] It first arose in the 1970s, like other critical schools of thought, such as critical legal studies, which examines how legal rules protect the status quo.
It's okay if you don't know them well enough to give a one-paragraph synopsis. I can for any topics in which I'm knowledgeable but, sadly, CRT isn't one of them.

Study is never a bad thing. It's what people do with studies that are bad. Consider the differences in IQ tests around the world which the racist fuckwads use to prove racial superiority. It's the people who are fucking racists, not the study/research.
There are two things racists are focusing upon: Assigning blame with the goal of reparations (pushed by LW racists, feared by RW racists) and fanning the flames of racism and division (a major agenda item of both the Left and Right).
There's the academic study of CRT and then there's all the racist political bullshit from those who seek to divide Americans against themselves.
