I don't get into pissing contest with these hucksters....that's their stock & trade for their cons/hustle. I'll just settle for taking their tax free status away.

If he had to buy the jewelry with his own money, then he would have to pay taxes on the money first, and it would take more money to buy the jewelry. If the church buys the jewelry, then there is no taxes on it. Usually he could even avoid sales tax, but also income and payroll taxes. It literally will cut the cost in half.
Many churches would have expensive trinkets. A Catholic bishop might have almost no income, but wear an antique bejeweled cross. The IRS will not question such an expense, because it is a religious matter.
I am getting the feeling that Lamor Whitehead does everything he can to avoid personal income. Everything is owned by the church.
Comparing Brooklyn to West Virginia is like comparing West Virginia to Mexico. I am not kidding. That "shithole" is doing much better than where most trump voters come from.
Whitehead's congregation would almost all have jobs, which is more than I can say for a comparable West Virginia church. The minimum wage in Brooklyn would be $15, where in West Virginia it is $8.75. To even afford rent in Brooklyn, you must make more than $15, so many times you are getting paid $20, where as West Virginian can afford rent on $8.75. I could go on, and on... But the point is there is a lot more money in Brooklyn than you apparently think.
The fact that Black Churches are as corrupt as they are matters.
Religions in general are corrupt. The government does not like to review their spending, and the corrupt have the defense that God told them to spend the money like that. Does anyone want to question God's commandments on how to spend?
From my experience, Black Churches are less corrupt.
There is a major limiting factor to all this corruption. If you find your church is corrupt, just leave it.

That is what the Neo-Nazis claim, but I would disagree. Black preachers make almost all their money from the donations of the congregations. Black religion is not a way for the Jews to enslave the Blacks.

Since you're not black and no NOTHING of the difference between say the black Protestant church and some evangelical offshoot, your correction would take a day and a night.
Bottom line: one has to check the true lineage of black churches to their European base (Pentecostal, Baptist, etc.) for legitimacy. Secondly, you should know that the Catholic Church has long been guilty of selling a "particular narrative"....just ask any Native American nation that suffered their "schools".
Walt is correct: you take away that tax exempt status and see who is left standing.

Why not? Facts are facts. A "church" who bases it teachings from God's disciples living a life of poverty shouldn't be sitting on billions and still taking donations from its parishioners.
The OP is just one example of all the religious hustlers out there. I remember Rev. Ike....and his still living white counter part "Doctor" Mike Murdock. Bucks equal God and vice versa. Then I caught some chick wearing a priests collar who claimed to be able to translate the "true language" of the Bible. You've got jokers like Tony Prince (his stage name), the old fart of "In Touch", etc., etc.
Personally, I would love to see their faces if Congress past a law that rescinded their tax exempt status.

Here's a guy that I discovered about 2 years ago on late night TV reruns (also on Sunday's, I hear). In his lexicon "seed"= money, "harvest"= profit how ever you gauge it from your "planting" (donation to church). This one is on my Top 10 list of "Are You Shitting Me?!!?!!"
