Could be. Trump really liked appointing racist judges. OTOH, this may be the trend as the more violent protestors are sentenced.

A man who attacked police officers with poles during the riot at the U.S. Capitol was sentenced on Tuesday to more than five years in prison, matching the longest term of imprisonment so far among hundreds of Capitol riot prosecutions.

Mark Ponder, a 56-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., said he “got caught up” in the chaos that erupted on Jan. 6, 2021, and “didn’t mean for any of this to happen.”

Aggravated battery on a Law Enforcement officer.

Hmm..let's see what that gets here..

"(d) In the case of aggravated battery, from a felony of the second degree to a felony of the first degree. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, any person convicted of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer shall be sentenced to a minimum term of imprisonment of 5 years."

Actually this would apply better and it's not as harsh: "(b) In the case of battery, from a misdemeanor of the first degree to a felony of the third degree. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a person convicted of battery upon a law enforcement officer committed in furtherance of a riot or an aggravated riot prohibited under s. 870.01 shall be sentenced to a minimum term of imprisonment of 6 months."

Of course this is D.C. and I think it's Federal law.

Oh crap, and then there's this:

"Where a defendant’s conduct constitutes Aggravated Battery, the offense is upgraded to a first degree felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Any person convicted of aggravated battery on a police officer is subject to a minimum mandatory prison sentence of 5 years. See Section 784.07(2)(d), Florida Statutes."
